Dr Abhilash Nayak

Senior Regional Director

Dr. Abhilash Nayak, educated from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur University, Sambalpur, worked as a lecturer in English in different colleges of Odisha for 12 years before he joined Government PG College, Sector-46, Chandigarh in 2003. There he worked until 2006 when he was transferred to Regional Institute of English, Chandigarh. He worked here until 2008 when he was appointed as a Regional Director of IGNOU. Having worked for his Ph. D Project on the Morpho-Syntactic Study of Saora (a Tribal Language Spoken in the Koraput District of Orissa), he is presently pursuing research on Language and Gender towards a Post Doctoral project. His other areas of interest include Indian Writing in English, English Language Teaching and Open and Distance Learning. With degrees and diplomas in distance education, higher education, E-Learning, Teaching of English, Translation Studies in English, Teaching English to Young Learners from reputed universities like IGNOU, The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, Central University, Hyderabad and University of Maryland, Baltimore County, USA, he has been constantly updating his knowledge in various fields related to education. One book titled Kalyani Practical English Grammar, authored by him and  widely in use since 1997, has been published by Kalyani Publishers, Ludhiana. He has also authored a book Communicate Effectively in English for the Students of Government Polytechnics in Haryana. His e-book Communicate2Connect is available on Wikieducator. He has also worked as the General Editor(Language) for two  series of books (PEARLS and RIPPLES) from KG-I to Standard VIII published by Future Kids, Daryaganj, New Delhi. Under an academic collaboration with UNICEF, Odisha he has been instrumental in providing orientation in English Language teaching to about 1000 teachers working in the Departments of ST/SC Development and Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha.

 

At present  he is working in Patna  as a Regional Director of IGNOU. Prior to this assignment, he has worked as the Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre, Koraput( 5 and half years), Regional Centre, Bhubaneswar (2 years and 8 months)  and Regional Evaluation Centre, Bhubaneswar(10 months).
