Achievements of the Regional Centre in 2018-2019

  • The Regional Centre got shifted to its own building spread over an area of four acres. The building was inaugurated by Shri Nitish Kumar ji, Honourable Chief Minister, Bihar in the presence of Prof Nageswhar Rao, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Dr M Shanmugam, Director, Regional Services Division, IGNOU , New Delhi on 21st February 2019. Five facility   centres were inaugurated on the same day to provide better support
  • Enrollment at the RC has been increasing constantly for the last 10  years. The percentage increase in enrollment  in July 2019 was the highest (58.6%) since the inception of the Regional Centre.
  • Special drives have been undertaken to empower the disadvantaged communities, particularly the SC/ST  communities, women and minorities. A total of 5452 SC/ST students (17.15%), 12737 women (40.07%) and 1477 minority students (4.64%) took admission in both the cycles in 2019.
  • The facility of Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana of Government of Bihar has been extended to students of IGNOU and till now 48 students have been benefited from this scheme. This has facilitated the educational empowerment of women in a big way.
  • Focus-The Bimonthly Digital Newsletter of the Regional Centre was launched on 19th November 2019 on the occasion of the  34th University Foundaiton Day of the University to  bring out the initaitves, achievements and activities of the University, Regional Centre, Study Centres and success stories of the learners for general information of the public.
  • The Regional Centre has declared the campus Plastic-free. Use and littering of all single use items in the premises of the Regional Centre has been banned.
  • The  Regional Centre   has successfully organized cleanliness drives in the premises of the Regional Centre and  adopted villages  at regular intervals under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan  to create awareness about cleanliness among the people.
  • The Regional centre planted 1000 saplings in the premises of the Regional centre and LSCs under its jurisdiction under the One Student, One TreeProgramme of Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
  • The RC has adopted  three villages (Goregaon, near Danapur;  Bigrahpur, near Mithapur and Govindpur, near Fatuah)  as the villages  for the Village Outreach Programme under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and has  been organizing awareness camps on education, health and hygiene to bring qualitative changes in the lives of the residents of these villages and create awareness about IGNOU programmes among the public.
  • The Study Centre for Jail inmates  in Adarsh Central Jail, Beur, Patna(0570D) has been successfully revived.  Fifteen new  Learner Support Centres have been established in  Sadar Hospital, Aurangabad (05184P), Sadar Hospital, Kaimur (05185P), Guru Govind Singh Sadar Hospital, Patna City, Patna (05186P), Sadar Hospital, Buxar (05187P), Sadar Hospital, Sasaram (05188P), Sadar Hospital, Sheikhpura (05189P), Sadar Hospital, Chapra (05190P), Sadar Hospital, Jamui (05191P), District Jail, Nalanda (05179D),  District Jail, Bhojpur(05180D), District Jail, Sasaram (05182D), District Jail, Hajipur (05181D), District Jail, Jamui (05183D), Central Jail, Gaya (05192D) and Central Jail, Buxar (05193D) for  Certificate in Community Health and Jail Inmates.
